Today is my final chemo treatment. I was supposed to be at Dr. Wallach's office at 9:30. We got here a little late but not much because we had to drop my car off at Detail Works to have it detailed - it's going to be there until tomorrow morning.
It feels like things are going slowly. Or we're just getting a slow start. Susan was inserting the IV line into my vein but it took about three times before my veins would accept the IV line.
I was finally hooked up to the IV around 11:15 with saline. Susan added the Emend at about 11:35. Since I have my computer here with me, I think I'll just do a timeline as things progress.
12:00 time to add the Aloxi and dexamethazone.
12:25 those are done ... now it's taxotere--Susan said that she set the drip for 90 minutes. So that'll take it to 2pm and then I after that comes the cytoxin.
It's 1:30 - I called Tom to bring me some lunch since I'm going to be here for another 2-3 hours.
2:20 end of Taxotere - started Cytoxin
Tom arrived with lunch - Chicken Kabobs from Taste of Lebonon. The food was good. He brought baklava too. One I hadn't had before - it's called birds nest.
Done with Cytoxin at 3:45. Now finishing up the saline solution.
4:10 - Susan took the IV stuff out of my arm. I'm free!!
I was packing up my computer, turned around and saw Dr. Wallach and many of her staff waiting for me. So unexpected. She had a bottle of Martinelli's Sparkling Cider for me. Everyone sang a congratulations song to me. I was so touched that they did that. Then I hugged and thanked everyone that had been part of my treatment - Dr. Wallach, Debbi, Susan, and Allison. Afterwards I realized that I should have had Tom snap a photo - but that's me; I think of it after the fact. There was one person missing - Gina. Apparently, she doesn't work there anymore. That's too bad because she has been the nurse giving me my neulasta shot the last three times --- and she's good at it. We'll see who I get for that tomorrow.
